A Letter From Dr. Wendy Scinta

Medical Weight Loss new branding annoucement

October 17, 2022 • A letter from Dr. Wendy Scinta to Medical Weight Loss patients and anyone interested in joining MWL on where the company started and how it has evolved.

When Medical Weight Loss of NY was founded 18 years ago, the world was a very different place, and I was a very different doctor. Three years out of my Family Practice training, I was completely disgruntled with the way medicine was being practiced. It was clear that my training taught me how to “manage” and not “cure” illnesses. As a former engineer, with a very analytical thought process, it didn’t sit right with my spirit that I was putting band-aides on diseases and potentially making people sicker.

I went back in my mind to a rotation I did during residency at the then “RICE Clinic” at Duke. I watched patients go through intense lifestyle changes which led to weight loss, resulting in the complete CURE of their chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and fatty liver disease, just to name a few. THIS IS WHAT I WANTED TO DO! It was clear that I needed to change my thinking and my practice.

In 2004, I hung my shingle and vowed to become an expert in Obesity Medicine, a specialty that used nutrition, behavioral modification, exercise, and medical management to help people lose weight and keep it off long term. Our tagline was “Physician Directed Weight Loss for Life.” Our logo was centered around an old school mechanical scale, with everything revolving around a “magic number.”

Over the last 18 years, we have helped thousands of patients lose weight, get healthier, and most importantly, live longer and more vibrant lives. We have helped children become healthy adults through our BOUNCE program, and young adults lose enough weight to improve their fertility and have families of their own. We have taken many patients off medications, helped reverse diseases, and turned some patients into intensive bikers and marathon runners. It has been a blast!

In the process, we realized that we needed to modify our approach. We have always focused on meal replacements and anti-obesity medications as key tools to achieve prolonged weight loss. However, to achieve this end in our diversity of patients, we needed more.

Consequently, we added:

Maintenance program graphic

1. A maintenance program – to provide accountability and help the weight loss “stick.”

Supplements graphic

2. Supplements – a key component to improve metabolism, promote sleep, and reduce weight by treating the gut-brain axis issues.

Bioidentical hormones graphic

3. Bioidentical hormones – to balance a patient’s sex hormones and create a well-oiled machine necessary for ideal weight loss that can be maintained.

Our programs have always been individualized, based on one’s DNA you could say, and we have always focused on helping our patients live their best lives, full of health, joy, and hope. We felt that we needed a makeover to reflect all of this, so we revamped our website and created a new logo that I absolutely love!

We are excited to introduce our new look and new messaging and to tell you the story of what we do
and why we do it. Our patients’ incredible changes and uplifting stories motivate us and keep us going every day. We love what we do and we are obsessed with helping people achieve the uplifting feeling reflected in our logo.

Congratulations to all of our patients who are keeping their weight off and living that life. To our new patients and those considering coming onboard, what are you waiting for? Let’s go!

All my best,
Dr. Scinta
