Overweight. Uncomfortable. High Blood Pressure. I either had to learn to live with this or had to do something. I found myself to be constantly dieting, achieving minimal results that were short-lived and then I would be right back where I started. Nothing was working. Frustrated, my primary care physician told me of Dr. Scinta and Medical Weight Loss of New York as a possible solution.

My MWL journey started in September of 2015. I was skeptical, nothing in the past had worked, but at this point it was worth the chance. Through my first few visits of measuring and planning, I started to gain some confidence and developed a “hey this may work” attitude and started on my program.

Programs are customized for each individual based on many factors – I was lucky, in the sense that I had a favorable metabolism and was already actively working out on a regular basis. Some programs frown on exercising during weight loss – but I was able to incorporate exercise in to my program. The official name for my program was a Partial-Meal-Replacement. This consisted of a high protein shake for breakfast, a protein bar for snack, a high protein shake for lunch, a protein bar for snack, a healthy lean and green dinner and a small snack in the evening. Sticking to this program I was able to see immediate results – I lost 30 pounds in the first 30 days. (I did say I had a favorable metabolism!) The weight loss continued at a less drastic pace and today, 16 months later I am nearing 70 pounds of weight lost.  It is a great feeling seeing people that you have not seen in a while as they double-take when looking at you.

This is the part the MWL staff doesn’t want you to hear! There were no foods or drinks that I wanted that I did without. Additionally, multiple golf trips with the guys, vacations and an all-inclusive week in the Caribbean. During my program, I learned about ME. What types of foods helped ME to lose? What foods made ME gain? How many calories do I need? How much protein? Knowing all this plus keeping track of what I put into my body – was the key to my success. I knew that after a bad day or week, I had to buckle down and get back on track and I did.

MWL has changed my life. I am no longer uncomfortable and was able to stop taking my blood pressure medicines. I have learned the benefits of good nutrition and making smart choices. Dinners at home in the past that may have contained a frozen bag of this or a can of that, have been replaced by actual lean meats, fresh vegetables – it is actually enjoyable to cook meals and expand the foods we eat. AND, yes I bought my first pair of skinny jeans!

I have gotten to where I wanted to be with MWL and I have transitioned off into a maintenance program of my own. I continue to eat healthy and still have a personal goal to lose another 10 pounds in the coming months. This picture of me shows just how much weight I had been needlessly carrying around!
