My entire life I’ve always been a big boned girl; from as far back as I can remember, I’ve always been taller and bigger than my friends. Thankfully, I have a very supportive, tight knit family that is behind me for every aspect of life while always pushing me to be the best I can be. My junior year in high school was the first time I decided I wanted to lose weight to simply make me faster, stronger, and better as I was looking to go to college for basketball. I utilized Jenny Craig and was very successful in 2012-13 right before I went to Pennsylvania to play basketball at Lebanon Valley College.
At that point in my life, I was active more than eight hours a day and it was very rare to see me without a basketball in my hand. I was so excited to go to college and start a new chapter of my life away from the small town I grew up in, make new friends, and do my own thing. Unfortunately, the positive experience that I was expecting was not even close to the one I received. A mixture of homesickness, depression, awful cafeteria food, and other unacknowledged reasons, I was stripped of my love for basketball and found myself eating everything in sight while also gaining back most of the weight I worked so hard to lose. After one semester that felt like ten years, I made some of the best friends, learned some serious life lessons and realized being away from my family is just not in the cards for me.
Over the past three years, I have tried many things and have been unsuccessful as I believe I just wasn’t in the correct mindset to make such a huge lifestyle change. Last April (2016), my mom texted me and told me my Aunt Leigh used to go to this place across from Wegmans and she loved it! I knew it was time to take control and make some serious changes, especially because shopping is my all-time favorite hobby and I wasn’t even enjoying doing that. That is when I decided to call and set up my free consultation.
Long story short, I went home excitedly and told my parents all of the details I just received about Medical Weight Loss of NY. I then called back the next morning to set up an appointment and that’s when this whole journey started. To spike my weight loss, I started with the full plan (meal replacements). I ended up switching to the partial plan right before I went on vacation in July because I knew I would become discouraged and definitely would not stick to my plan. Ever since, I have been on the partial plan. It has been between 6-7 months since I’ve started and I’ve lost a little more than 50 pounds. Not only have I lost weight, but I’ve also learned a great deal about food itself, like acceptable portion sizes and different healthy options. I personally believe that this is one of the main things that sets Medical Weight Loss of NY apart from other weight loss programs, because not only are they helping you lose weight initially, they are also teaching you ways to MAINTAIN a healthy lifestyle and understand the ins and outs of REAL food.
My goal never was and never will be to be a size 2, it is to be healthy and confident in my own skin like I once was. Medical Weight Loss of NY has been the main factor in my success of ultimately achieving this goal. After such a short time, I am only like 10-13 pounds away from my goal weight. Any plan that you choose definitely takes some hard work, determination, and will power at certain times, but the awesome staff will do everything in their power to help you either get back or just get to the healthiest weight attainable for your individual self. If there is one piece of advice that I could give to anyone, it is to warm up your chocolate bars for like 15 seconds in the microwave, it makes them taste like a brownie!!!
